How to: GoDaddy DNS

How to: GoDaddy DNS change to point your website

GoDaddy is an ICANN accredited domain registrar that manages more than 40 million domain names and has over 17 million users. If you’re a GoDaddy user and want to point your domain to a website we built, here is how.

1. Log onto GoDaddy.com and navigate to "My Products." Find the domain you need to change the DNS settings for and click the 3 dots. This will pull up a small menu. Select "Manage DNS."

2. Scroll down until you see the "Add" button. This will bring up the new DNS menu.

3. This will bring up a prompt to create your DNS records. It takes up to 48 hours for these changes to propagate across the internet.

Custom domain (A Record Redirect):

Use this method to point your domain to our hosting. For example, if your master domain is: mydomain.com - this will be the URL to navigate to the website we built for you.

You will need to create 2 Records.

Record 1:

  • Type needs to be A
  • Host (might be Alias) needs to be @
  • Points to (might be Canonical Name or Redirect) needs to be 34.237.47.210
  • Leave TTL with the default value
  • IMPORTANT: you can't have two @ A redirects. If you already have one, replace that, instead of adding a second one.

Record 2:

  • Type needs to be CNAME
  • Host (might be Alias) needs to be www
  • Points to (might be Canonical Name or Redirect) needs to be your unique project name we provide you at hand off (in our case in the example image it is sample.TMP.site, yours will be different).
  • Leave TTL with the default value
  • IMPORTANT: you can't have two www CNAME redirects. If you already have one, replace that, instead of adding a second one.

Subdomain (CNAME Redirect):

Use this method when you want  to link a subdomain instead of your main domain. For example, if you want to create a landing page on your custom domain (landing.mydomain.com) but keep your current website and main domain (mydomain.com) where it is.

  • Type needs to be CNAME
  • Host (might be Alias) needs to be the name of your sub domain, in our example template1, replace that with your own
  • Points to (might be Canonical Name or Redirect) needs to be your unique project name we provide you at hand off (in our case in the example image it is sample.TMP.site, yours will be different).
  • Leave TTL with the default value
